About Reading to Flourish

books.webp

Reading to Flourish is a mental health initiative founded by three passionate Psychology and Neuroscience Western University students who aspire to educate children and their families on a range of mental health topics through reading.

Often children are not thought to have mental health concerns. However, mental health affects everyone, although it may present differently at different ages. In fact, 1 in 5 children will experience a mental health disorder in their lifetime. But 5 in 5 of us have mental health. That’s everyone!

Reading books about mental health is important for a number of reasons and can create meaningful change for children, their families, and our communities. Reading books that address children’s social-emotional development and health can equip children with the language they need to better understand their own mental health, emotions, and difficult life transitions which they may experience.

Our Mission

Our mission is to equip children and their families with the language and information about mental health. Reading books can help children and families recognize concerns about their own mental health, develop healthy coping strategies, feel less alone, and seek early intervention.
